Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the SMK Negeri 1 Selong (East Lombok) vocational high school library in supporting the learning process and to identify factors hindering the optimization of that role. A qualitative, descriptive research approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, head librarian, library staff, vocational teachers, and students; the data were subsequently analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the library has played a role in supporting the learning process through effective circulation services, quality reference services, user guidance, and the provision of facilities and infrastructure that support learning activities. The library also contributes to enhancing students' knowledge, literacy culture, and preparedness for practical training sessions. However, optimizing this role faces several challenges, namely low student interest in reading and limited literacy culture, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, budget constraints for developing technology-based services, and shifting information access patterns driven by technological advancements. Nevertheless, the school administration and library management continue to strive to optimize various services and literacy programs through collaboration with teachers. Therefore, efforts to improve service quality, expand collections, provide facilities and infrastructure, and leverage technology must be sustained so that the library can optimally fulfill its function as a learning resource center supporting the educational process.
