Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not the use of the Neurological Impress Method is effective in teaching reading at SMPN 2 Lingsar West Lombok in the academic year 2022/2023. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. This research conducted on class VIII students of SMPN 2 Lingsar West Lombok. Sampling was carried out using cluster random sampling. In analyzing the data using SPSS 12, namely analyzing the data collected from the pre-test and post-test design to collect data. The results showed that the use of neurological impress method in narrative texts affected students reading skill. Students reading achievement before being taught using neurological impress method in narrative texts is generally low, as shown by the average score of 40.76. Students reading achievement after being taught by using neurological impress method is better than before. This can be seen from the mean value of 67.13. Statistical analysis using paired sample t-test using SPSS 12, indicated by t (0.05) t-table value is (0.000) and t-value or t-count (0.000). It was lower than 0.05 level. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This means that there is a significant difference between students reading ability before and after being taught using neurological impress method on student achievement
