Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Snowball Throwing method in improving English vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students at MTsS Nurul Haq. The background of this research is based on the low vocabulary achievement among students caused by monotonous learning methods that do not actively engage them. This research used a quantitative method using a design that is somewhat experimental.The subjects consisted of two classes: an experimental class taught using the Snowball Throwing method and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through a pre-test consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions and a post-test in the form of student participation observation. The descriptive analysis showed that the average score of the experimental class increased from 61.25 to 76.67 after the treatment. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores in the experimental class. Moreover, the Mann-Whitney U Test also showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes in the post-test results. These findings indicate that the Snowball Throwing method is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. It is hoped that this method can be used as a reference for implementing more active and engaging English learning strategies in schools.
