Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of YouTube Shorts as a digital learning medium to enhance the ability of second-grade students (Class 2/A) at MTs Aunul Ibad NW Maji in writing procedure texts during the 2024/2025 academic year. Employing a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the research was conducted over approximately two weeks, beginning on 20 August 2024. The pretest, administered on 21 August 2024, yielded an average score of 75, reflecting the students’ initial competence in writing procedure texts. The treatment phase, conducted from 22 to 26 August 2024, integrated visually engaging YouTube Shorts into the instructional process to improve students’ understanding of text structure, language features, and sequencing. The posttest, held on 27 August 2024, recorded an increased average score of 90, indicating a substantial improvement in performance. The findings demonstrate that YouTube Shorts exerted a positive influence on students’ writing skills, particularly in idea organization, precise vocabulary use, and adherence to appropriate text structures. These results suggest that YouTube Shorts can serve as an effective and motivating digital tool for English language learning, offering practical implications for educators seeking to integrate innovative and interactive media into writing instruction.
