Abstract

The researchers set out to determine whether or not utilizing songs to teach vocabulary is a successful strategy, and if so, how much of a difference in performance there would be between the two groups. There were a total of 52 students in the study; 26 were randomly assigned to the control group and 26 were assigned to the experimental group. This research employed a 20-item multiple-choice exam as its instrument. Pre- and post-tests were utilized to gather data, which was then analyzed using SPSS 26. Findings indicated a range from 35 to 75 with a mean of 54.81 and standard deviation of the data set. With a standard deviation of 11.089, a range of 80–95 in the post-test, 88.08 as the mean, and Std. The pre-test control N variable displays a range of 26 students, with a minimum of 25, a maximum of 70, a mean of 47.88, and a standard deviation of 5.114. The post-test ranges from 50 to 85, with a mean of 71.54 and a standard deviation of 11.677. A discrepancy of 8.339. The experimental group had a higher mean post-test score compared to the control group. It may be inferred that there is a significant difference in student performance between groups taught with and without the use of music, as shown by the paired test result of 0.000 < 0.05 and the sig. (2-tailed) result of 0.022 < 0.05 from the independent test. We support the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) that students in the eleventh grade at SMK Negeri 1 Lingsar learned new words via musical composition in the 2022–2023 school year.
